Watercolor items are hand-crafted works of art and as such you may have several questions we would like to answer. If your questions are not answered by reading the explanations below, please feel free to contact us by telephone at (888)240-5596 or via e-mail at info@riversedgedancewear.com .
How many colors can I get on a single garment?
Too many colors on a garment can result in a "muddied" look, where none of the colors are clearly distinguishable. In general, we suggest the following color limits on these garments:
Long Skirt: Maximum of 3 colors
Short Skirt: 2 to 3 colors
Skate Dress: 2 to 3 colors
Long Dance Dress: Maximum of 3 colors
Unitard: Maximum of 3 colors
Shorts/Top Sets: 2 colors. A possible 3rd color may be added only as an accent color.
Can I get a solid colored garment?
Yes you can. This would be considered as a “CUSTOM COLOR COMBINATION” on most Watercolor items. When placing an order on-line with River’s Edge Dancewear, you can indicate this in the “COMMENTS” section of the on-line order form. For example, “Make the Watercolor tank dress in SOLID white.” The price would be somewhat less than a colored item and we would adjust your order accordingly after it has been placed on-line.
In what order are colors placed on a garment using a specific color combination?
In any given color combination for a dress or overdress, the first color in the combination is the top color of the garment and the last color is the bottom color of the garment. In the color combination “Purple-Royal-White”, the leotard color or top color of the garment would be Purple, the second color would be Royal Blue, and the bottom color would be White. Unitards can be colored using a “block” color method where the color combination starts at the top and then progresses down the garment, as it does with the dresses or “camouflage” color method where all colors are placed throughout the garment.
Is there anything I should keep in mind when determining a color combination?
Such things as the music selected, the mood you are trying to convey, and the age of the performer should all be considered when choosing a color combination. The top color of a color combination is the color closest to your face so you may want to select a color that looks attractive on you. If you look fabulous in "Purple" , then you may want to consider the combination "Purple-XXXX-XXXX", rather than "XXXX-XXXXX-Purple" (where the Purple would be on the bottom of the garment). Some groups have created a nice effect by having color combinations repeated in a different order. For example, some girls would wear AAA-BBB-CCC, some would wear BBB-CCC-AAA, and others would wear CCC-AAA-BBB for the same dance piece.
Can I request color samples from you?
In general we DO NOT provide color samples as Watercolors can create just about any color combination you can imagine. See next question.
Can I send you color samples to match?
Yes. The procedure to do so is as follows. Place your order online and select “CUSTOM COLOR COMBINATION” as your color choice. You can then contact us by phone (888-240-5596) or by e-mail (info@riversedgedancewear.com) so that we can provide you with further details on sending the samples. Many people go to the hardware store and get paint “chip” samples to get just the color(s) that they need and this is a very easy way to send color samples via the mail.
How long does it usually take to receive an order once is has been placed on-line and finalized (there are no outstanding questions about color placement, sizing, style, etc.)?
To offer you the most selection in color and styles, these items are made after your order is placed. Production time at the factory depends on the time of year (the spring is very busy due to recital season, whereas the summer is not nearly so busy at the factory.) In general, it takes with Regular Delivery: 7-8 weeks. Expedited Direct Delivery: 2-5 weeks, additional charges will apply. These charges vary based on current production schedule and delivery location. Please contact us for further details.
Can I have an order “rushed” to me to meet my need-by date?
Perhaps. Much depends on what you need, when you need it, and where you are located. If you have special time constraints contact us by phone (888-240-5596) or by e-mail (info@riversedgedancewear.com).
What is the difference between “Chiffon” and “Georgette”?
Chiffon is a sheer, plain-weave, lightweight, transparent fabric. Georgette is a semi-transparent lightweight fabric but is slightly heavier and more opaque than chiffon.
What is the difference between a single layer skirt and a double layer skirt?
A single layer skirt has one layer of Chiffon, a double layer has two layers of Chiffon. The double layer will not be as see-through as the single layer. A double layer skirt has the top layer skirt slightly shorter than the bottom layer. SEE PHOTO #4. We also offer a long skirt that has a top layer of chiffon and a bottom layer of georgette.
What is the difference between a single hanky and a double hanky?
A single hanky is one layer of fabric that forms 4 "points" on the bottom of the skirt. A double hanky has two layers of fabric with the top layer overlapping the bottom layer and 8 "points" on the bottom of the skirt.
What are “wings”?
“Wings” are petals of chiffon or georgette that are attached to the shoulders of a garment (usually a sleeveless garment). These are not cap sleeves, but just add an extra bit of elegance and movement to the dress. SEE PHOTO # 2 and # 3. This is an option offered on most sleeveless dresses and overdresses. These differ from the “wings” shown on the Wings of Praise Dance Dress (WC WP D) or the Watercolor Butterfly Unitard (WC BFLY UNI))where there are large pieces of colored chiffon attached along sleeves and then are attached also down the sides of the body.
I bought some Watercolor items in the past. How do I go about getting more to match?
Even though you may order more in the same color combination does not mean that the colors will be exact matches or that color placement will be similar to the batch you ordered previously. Because each Watercolor item is a work of art created by hand, it will be necessary for one of the items to be sent back to the factory so that a color match can be done. Contact us for details on how to proceed.
